THE Prescot Bypass was closed both ways for two hours on Monday night after a teenage girl was knocked down near to Knowsley Safari Park.
The incident affected traffic travelling between M57, Huyton and Eccleston.
UPDATE: A 16-YEAR-OLD girl is in a serious but stable condition in hospital after being knocked down by a car on the Prescot Bypass Monday afternoon.
She was crossing the A58 near to the entrance to Knowsley Safari Park at 4.45pm when she was in collision with a Vauxhall Zafira.
Paramedics and police attended and the girl was taken to hospital by ambulance. She sustained a broken arm and leg and remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.
A police spokesman said: "The driver of the Vauxhall stopped at the scene and has assisted Roads Policing officers with their enquiries.
"Both carriageways of the A58 near to the scene were closed for approximately two hours whilst officers conducted examinations.
"The investigation into the matter is on-going."
