A MAN has been charged in connection with an alleged assault in which a woman suffered a stab wound to her stomach.

Robert Leary, 38, from Fincham Road, Page Moss in Liverpool was due to appear before magistrates in Liverpool this morning charged with Section 18 Wounding with Intent and possession of a bladed article.

He was arrested following the incident in Prescot on Tuesday, July 28.

At around 11am a 36-year-old woman got on the 10a bus on Derby Street and told the driver she had been assaulted.

The driver dropped her off at a nearby police station and she was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment for a puncture wound to her stomach. She has since been discharged.

Detective Inspector Robert Moss said: "The victim was near to a bus stop on Derby Street when we believe she was involved in an argument with a man resulting in her being injured.

"We are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident and in particular anyone who may have been on the 10a bus travelling along Derby Street towards Liverpool at around 11am who may have seen the woman get on the bus or anything suspicious to get in touch as their information could be vital to our investigation.”

Anyone with information should contact Merseyside Police on 0151 777 6584 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
