WILDCARD Boxing Club are ready to cap off a successful season with five fighters heading off to theMonkstown International Box Cup in Dublin this week.

With over 420 entries from 11 different countries the competition in Ireland will be tough, but there is genuine belief among members of the Parr-based club that they can return with medals.

Representing Wildcard are 16-year-old Jack Jones at 57kg, 15-year- olds Joe Smith at 54kg, 63kg female England Champ Olivia Hussey, Ryan Moore at 41kg and 51kg national silver medallist Ciara Hodnett, aged 12.

They head there with the help of a £400 grant from renew Parr.

Meanwhile there was silver in the ABA final for Hannah Palfrey, 14, in her first season boxing.

Andy Boy Smith, 12, also got silver, after some momentous fights to get to the final.

Bronze medals were won by 11 year-old Aiden Gallagher, who fought every second of every round and came a close runner-up to the eventual champ, and Tyler Hagen.

There was mixed success for Ryan Moore, getting Boxer of the Night on the May Show with a masterclass performance, and junior cadet Patrick Maughan whose in the running for Wildcard fight of the year for the Regional Championship Final.

Adam Carberry, with his Ali shuffle, blinding hand speed and faultless feet, is one to watch in the new season.
