RECYCLING and waste experts were on hand at the Hardshaw Centre to mark an initiative aimed at increasing awareness of reusable waste.

Recycle Week 2015 saw members of St Helens Council’s recycling team and Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority hand out leaflets and offer advice to members of the public.

As the Star reported last week, one key message was that as well as everyday rubbish such as plastic and glass milk bottles, many other items can also be recycled including things from the bathroom, living room and even the bedroom.

These can include newspapers, envelopes, cardboard packaging, toilet roll tubes, toothpaste boxes, plastic shampoo and moisturiser bottles, liquid soap, bleach and bathroom cleaner bottles and many more.

“We want to thank everyone for their recycling efforts” said Councillor Seve Gomez-Aspron, St Helens Council’s cabinet member for green, smart and sustainable borough.

“What’s currently recycled makes a huge difference, so just imagine what else could be achieved by recycling those items that are sometimes forgotten. We want people to think a little further than the kitchen and recycle items from other rooms in the home.

"We are recognised nationally as having one of the most improved recycling rates in the UK and we would like to thank the public for their participation."
