A RUGBY club received help from volunteers to help transform its facilities.

West Park rugby union club had a team of helpers dedicate many hours of free labour between them over two days to fix, tidy and redecorate important areas of the club.

The work was done as part of the NatWest Rugby Force event, which is helping rugby union clubs across the country get ready to make their facilities the place to be to watch England's quest for World Cup glory this autumn.

Marie Rimmer, the MP for St Helens South and Whiston, and West Park councillor, visited the club on Sunday to see the hard work that has gone into transforming the club, which has gone on over the last two years. Ms Rimmer spent time with volunteers working in the clubhouse and visited the children who played the rugby. Marie was proud to be awarded the Natwest Rugby Force T-shirt by some of the players and the club's very own 'Red Rocks Fox'.

And the Prescot Road club also welcomed some potential players of the future as it hosted its 'Summer Rugby' campaign. More than 100 children attend each week to sample rugby union in a fun and active environment with a view to go on playing.
