A PROPOSAL to install nearly 1,000 solar panels on the rooftop of the Starbank headquarters in Newton-le-Willows has been submitted to St Helens planning authorities.

If planners give consent, the 960 panels will be positioned on the south facing roof planes of the main Starbank building, off Junction Lane.

In a supporting statement, Starbank, who manufacture decorative panels in materials such as laminate, wood and plastics, said: "Given the position of the building within the locality, along with the pitch of the roof plan, the proposed panels will integrate well with the building and the surrounding area.

"The position of the proposed panels has been selected because of its orientation with direct sunlight."
