THE search is on for the town's next big singing talent.

An X Factor-style singing contest is coming to Church Square to unearth the next sensation and raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The event has been organised by Peter Quinn, who suffered from bowel cancer from 1998 to 2000.

After setting up UK Charity Aid organisation, more than £500,000 has been raised for charity competitions and busks in town centres across the north.

"It is good fun and I am sure we will find lots of talent in St Helens," said Peter.

"We are raising for Macmillan and I appreciate what they do. We have done these before and they are really popular, especially with the children."

The event takes place at 10am in the square on Saturday, July 11. The competition is open to singers of all ages and people are asked to ring 08448009177 or they can register at 9.30am on the day.

Volunteers are also welcome but must register before the event.
