MORE than 50 stroke survivors, their friends and families put on their walking shoes at Victoria Park.

Last Thursday morning (June 25) saw the Step Out For Stroke event take place at the park, which was officially kicked off by mayor Cllr Stephen Glover.

As well as the walk, the park was a hive of activity held by Age UK Mid Mersey, who are based at Mansion House on the park's grounds.

These included Thai Chi, walking football and dance sessions and the Phoenix Classic Car Club displayed a selection of beautiful cars.

The day saw vital funds raised for the Stroke Association for the day which celebrated the brave steps in a stroke survivor’s recovery while money was also raised on the day for Age UK and other causes.

“Fundraising is definitely not a requirement, instead our aim is to promote health and wellbeing awareness and participation," said Karen Kenny, services director at Age UK Mid Mersey.

The day was also supported by the St Helens Healthy Living Team, St Helens Carers Centre and the Affordable Warmth Team.
