AWARD-WINNING poet JB Barrington will stir the emotions when he performs at St Helens Central Library on Friday (June 26).

The Mancunian poet, who won Best Spoken Word at last year’s Greater Manchester Fringe and is Amnesty International Poetry Slam Winner, will provide a moving show on his first visit to the town.

Having completed a tour with outspoken punk and hip hop duo Sleaford Mods, JB Barrington’s shows are a rollercoaster of emotions with a brilliant and imaginative display of poetic writing that speaks as much to music fans as traditional poetry fans.

It promises to be an atmospheric event, stimulating emotion and magnifying perspectives which prod the conscience through social issues, economics, class and loss.

Among JB's fans is comic Johnny Vegas who recently said of his work: “Lovely stuff – touches heart strings and the odd raw nerve”.

Cllr Andy Bowden, St Helens cabinet member for public health and wellbeing, said: “JB Barrington is a wonderful poet and performer who creates quick-witted work that appeals to everyone in society.

“Through his work JB gives a voice to people who often don't get their voices heard as he tells stories that will resonate and connect to the people of St. Helens.

“Our Cultural Hubs - Arts In Libraries programme continues to draw in top notch performers and it is fitting that someone of the quality of JB would choose to perform as part of the programme.”

At 5pm JB is supported by Young Storyteller of the Year 2014, Jake Evans, and then at 7pm things take a turn for the ruder with support from poet Carol Robson. Expect some strong language at the later show.

Tickets cost between £2.50 and £6 or £7 for both shows and can be purchased from St Helens Central library or online at www.culturalhubs.eventbrite.co.uk
