YOU would be forgiven for thinking you'd entered a saloon in the wild west... not a food factory on a St Helens industrial estate.

In the reception at Kapak Foods, music from spaghetti western movies such as 'The Good, The Bad and The Ugly' - starring the likes of Clint Eastwood, Eli Wallach and Lee Van Cleef - is pumped out all day, every day.

And the building's stairways, corridors and meeting room walls are hung with pieces from company chief executive Keith Brewood's impressive collection of film composer Ennio Morricone memorabilia.

First drawn to Morricone's music as a 10-year-old boy, Keith, now 61, possesses the UK's largest Morricone collection - and he keeps most of it at work, not at home.

He said: "It all started years ago. I went to see 'A Fistful of Dollars' with my sister and her boyfriend when I was about 10. It was a 15 but I was tall so I got in!

"I fell in love with the music. The composer was named as 'Dan Savio' but after going into music shops and failing to find a Don Savio record, I did a bit of detective work and discovered Don Savio was an English pen name used by Morricone."

Since then, he has been a devoted fan, and, for the past decade a close friend, of Morricone.

"I decided to bring it to the office, after all, that is where I spend most of my time. It gives the place a bit of personality, not like the usual boring, faceless factories," says Keith.

"It makes a good talking point when visitors come to the building. I think the staff like it - either that or they put up with it!"

He added: "I know it is a bit quirky and obsessive. I do like other music and go to other concerts, but this is my great passion."

Amongst items in Keith's collection are more than 200 film posters - including The Mission, The Thing and Wolf - CDs, DVDs, signed musical scores and photographs.

After years pursuing his idol, Keith finally met Morricone in Rome around 10 years ago.

He said: "He is a very shy, unassuming man and doesn't usually meet fans but I finally managed to contact him. Since our first meeting and meal together, we have been getting together after concerts and he says he now considers me part of his extended family."

With around 200 members of staff, Kapak, in Ennio Morricone House, Abbotsfield Industrial Estate, manufactures and packages foodstuffs such as cereal, biscuits, pasta, rice, coffee, tea and health foods like seeds.
