AN elderly couple were threatened by three masked burglars, one armed with a knife, who burst into their home on Monday (June 15).

They struck at a house on Albany Avenue in Eccleston Park just before 8.15am and threatened a 76-year-old man and his 72-year-old wife before escaping with an Omega Prestige de Ville watch and a large amount of jewellery.

The three men are described as white and in their late teens to early 20s. Their faces were covered and they wore blue hoodies.

They escaped in a white Audi (pictured) which was last seen on St Helens Road heading towards Knowsley Safari Park.

Crime Scene Investigators have carried out forensic examinations at the scene.

Detective Inspector Paul Unsworth said: "This was a very frightening incident for the victims who were confronted in their own home by three men, one of whom was armed with a knife.

"Fortunately, neither of the victims were hurt, but they are extremely distressed by their ordeal. I would like to take this opportunity to reassure the local community that a thorough investigation is underway and we are doing everything possible to identify the offenders and put them before the courts.
