IF you know your saxophone from your cymbal the St Helens Youth Brass Band could be the place for you.

The band is looking for the next generation of brass and percussion players to join their team of talented musicians.

Musical director Gareth Brindle and his team take on youngsters from complete beginners to accomplished musicians. Many who have been part of their ranks have gone on to perform with the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain, while others have joined the Black Dyke Band, Fodens, Wingates and Rainford.

The band has also enjoyed a number of successful tours including New York, Paris, Florence, Ohio, Salzburg and most recently Valkenburg in the Netherlands.

Gareth said: "If you're between eight and nine and you're from St Helens or the surrounding areas we can help take your playing to the next level. We'll encourage you to take responsibility as you develop your confidence and sense of achievement from the performances you'll be giving.

"Our young people demonstrate what can be achieved with hard work, commitment and dedication. We provide a safe, fun environment where you can learn new skills and make friends for life within a supportive team spirit.

"This is a big year for St Helens Youth Brass Band. We are helping create the next generation of talented brass and percussion players."

St Helens Youth Brass Band and St Helens Junior Brass Band rehearse every Saturday morning during term time at the United Reformed Church in St Helens. If you can play just a few notes or at a higher standard the band would like to hear from you. Contact Sheila Hibberd via the shybb.org.uk.
