FIREFIGHTERS will be out and about this week at a series of events as part of Child Safety Week.

The Fire Support Network (FSN), which is the chartitable arms of Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service is holding one of the events this Thursday (June 7) at Leyland Street and Eccleston Street in Prescot.

Families are invited to go along from 10am to 2pm for advice on how to stay safe from fires and other accidents in the home. FSN will also be handing out free energy saving bulbs at the events.

There will also be a bitter taste test which is aimed at deterring children from swallowing poisonous chemicals.

Karen Lavery community welfare manager at Fire Support Network said: "Small changes to people’s lifestyles can make a huge difference in helping to keep children safe from accidental fires in the home.

"We are inviting people in the community to come along, meet our team and receive some valuable advice on how to prevent fires as well as other accidents in the home."

Child Safety Week runs from Monday, June 1 to Sunday, June 7.
