POLICE say a cyclist who was hurt following a collision with a car on the East Lancs Road remains in a critical but stable condition.

The incident happened in Knowsley at the junction with Coopers Lane yesterday afternoon (Wednesday, May 27).

Collision investigators from Merseyside Police's roads policing unit are continuing to appeal for any witnesses to call them on 0151 777 5747.

 


 

A CYCLIST is in a critical condition after a collision with a car on the East Lancs Road in Knowlsey this afternoon.

Officers were called to the East Lancashire Road at its junction with Coopers Lane, to reports of a collision between a car and a bicycle.

The cyclist, who is believed to be in his 20s, has been taken to hospital by ambulance where his injuries are described as critical.

The woman driver of the Astra involved in the collision, stopped at the scene and is assisting police with their enquiries.

A police spokesman said: "At this time the East Lancashire Road at its junction with Coopers Lane (travelling from St Helens) remains closed and motorists are advised to avoid the area.

"Officers are keen to speak with anyone who witnessed this collision and officers are particularly keen to speak with a motorists who stopped immediately after the collision, but left before they spoke with officers."

MOTORISTS are warned of delays heading from St Helens to Liverpool after an accident closed the Westbound section of the East Lancashire Road at Knowsley.

The collision involving a  cyclist and a vehicle happened between A5208 Cooper's Lane / Ormskirk Road and A5208 Moorgate Road at Knowsley Industrial Park.

Traffic bulletins say it is affecting motorists heading away from St Helens, passing Knowsley Industrial Estate, towards Liverpool.
