WRITER and documentary maker Jon Ronson is bringing an on-stage version of his latest book to St Helens this Saturday.

'An Evening of Public Shaming', at The Citadel, is based on the book 'So, You've Been Publicly Shamed', which examines the cruel side of social media, in particular Twitter.

The book, published in March, and has been described as "sharply observed" and "hilarious".

Ronson, 48, is a Welsh journalist, author, documentary filmmaker and radio presenter whose works include the 2004 bestseller 'The Men Who Stare at Goats' which was made into a film in 2009 starring George Clooney, Ewan McGregor, Jeff Bridges and Kevin Spacey.

He has published nine books, including the recent runaway success 'The Psychopath Test' and 'Frank' about Chris Sievey's comic persona Frank Sidebottom, and his writing has appeared in publications such as The Guardian, City Life and Time Out. He has made several BBC documentaries and two documentary series for Channel 4.

Speaking ahead of the date, he said:“I love the St Helens Citadel. I’ve been going there since the early 1990s – when I got to see one of the first ever Charlatans shows. So I’m really excited to be back there talking about public shaming and psychopaths and Frank Sidebottom too.”

A spokesperson for The Citadel said: "Jon Ronson hasn't done anything wrong. However, he's spent the past three years with people who have - documenting the destruction close up. And now he's ready to tell the tale.

"Simultaneously hilarious and powerful in the way only Jon can be, An Evening of Public Shaming is an illustrated one-man show about the renaissance of public shaming, and our very scary part in it.

"It's a story about how we've become soldiers in a war on human nature and its flaws - and how there's been an escalation in hostilities."
