A RUGBY league exhibition is returning to St Helens library service.

Chester Lane Library has been chosen to host the Rugby League Heritage on Tour travelling exhibition.

This collection of national sporting memorabilia will be available to enjoy the library between April 18 and May 2.

As well as historic memorabilia, including a player's shirt from the first ever rugby league test match and the ball from the famous 1954 Challenge Cup final replay, the exhibition tells the story of the game's split from rugby union, the first World Cup and the banning of league in World War Two era France.

In addition, local historian Alex Service has loaned artefacts and memorabilia from his collection, with items showing the vital role the Saints have played in the history of rugby league nationally.

Head of libraries for St Helens Council, Sue Williamson, said: "I am delighted that the Rugby League Heritage exhibition is coming back to St Helens libraries in a different location so that more people can have the opportunity to see it.

"We hope that people from other rugby league towns will take the opportunity to come and see this fantastic exhibition."
