A 28-YEAR-OLD man remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital after a car ploughed into a telegraph pole and a tree, say police.
The collision happened on Chapel Lane, near to the junction with Walkers Lane, Sutton Manor at about 9.15am on Thursday.
The man was freed from the white Mercedes by firefighters who used hydraulic cutting equipment to remove the roof of the vehicle.
He was taken to Aintree Hospital by ambulance. A police spokesman said the man has back injuries. He is believed to be from the Greater Manchester area.
Three fire appliances were called out and firefighters were at the scene for around and hour and 15 minutes.
The road was closed for more than four hours.
