McGREGOR Blameless

Had no chance with Scott McDonald's match-winning strike during the second half. He was also in the right position to stop Georgios Samaras making it 2-0 with a close-range header.

WHITTAKER Terrible

Was played in his preferred position but even at right-back he failed to prove he is good enough to cut it at Ibrox. Can have no complains if he finds himself back on the sidelines.

PAPAC Poor

Didn't do enough during the game. The left-back didn't make enough of an effort to push forward and make an impact.

WEIR Unconvincing

Beaten in the air by Georgios Samaras in the lead-up to Celtic's winning goal. Hasn't been as effective as last season and that was also the case at the weekend.

BROADFOOT Mistake

Badly at fault for McDonald's goal as he got caught on the wrong side of the Celtic striker. His best position now is at right-back but he has played central defence often enough in the past to know how to play that role.

DAVIS Average

Had a decent chance to open the scoring early in the game but screwed his effort wide. Fell out the game and ended up playing out of position at right-back for the final stages of the match.

MENDES Ineffective

The Portuguese midfielder failed to pick any killer passes although he worked hard and always tried to get on the ball. Steven Davis and Koki Mizuno battle it out in midfield and both failed to sparkle Celtic keeper Artur Boruc dealt with Gers' few attempts on his goal Rangers forward Kyle Lafferty did not make an impact as a substitute as Scott Brown pulls away The pain of defeat sinks in for Mendes, Ferguson and Boyd

FERGUSON Quiet

Captain threaded the pass through to Boyd for Rangers' one and only clear-cut chance in the match. Grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck at the start of the second half but after Celtic went ahead he fell back out of it.

ADAM Poor

Surprise starter in left midfield. Booking for typically clumsy and badly-timed tackle put him under pressure and he struggled before eventually being given the hook.

BOYD Bad miss

Was desperate to finally show he should start against Celtic but when the big chance came the Rangers striker failed to take it. Miss was a major turning point in the game.

MILLER Struggled

Display in first Old Firm game of the season won fans but he failed to make an impact on Saturday. Celtic defence played him perfectly and didn't allow his pace to trouble them.

SUBS

Novo came on for Whittaker and immediately beat a couple of Celtic players before sending his shot miles off target. That was as much as he contributed. Lafferty was sent on for Adam to try and help Rangers find a way back into the game but didn't manage to make any difference to the outcome.

SMITH Hurting Made a surprise de

cision to start with Charlie Adam on left side of midfield but just didn't get enough from his players throughout the match. Will be more hurt with the fact his team didn't show a real desire to get back into the game after falling behind.
