THE sentencing of a Newton-le-Willows teenager charged in connection with a joyriding incident was adjourned at St Helens Magistrates’ Court.

The 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged on suspicion of conspiracy to commit burglary, with taking a motor vehicle without consent and on suspicion of disqualified driving, dangerous driving and driving without insurance.

He is one of two teenage boys – the other aged 15 and also from Newton-le-Willows – arrested following the theft of a BMW 520 from a property in Toft Road, Knutsford. The theft triggered a high-speed chase with police which finished with the stolen car ploughing into a house near Leigh Golf Course.

The 15-year-old appeared at Halton Magistrates’ Court on January 22 and was handed a 12-month driving ban, despite not being old enough to get behind the wheel in one year’s time.

He was also referred to a youth offending team for 12 months.

The 16-year-old will appear at St Helens Youth Court on March 10.
