WHEN five-year-old Lila Amor decided to raise some money for the British Heart Foundation she had no idea of how far it would lead.

Lila, the daughter of Saints prop Kyle, decided to start her fundraising mission at Birchley St Mary’s Primary School in Billinge after seeing the Wear It Beat It campaign on television.

The cause is particularly important to Lila, because she was born with two holes in her heart.

She set an initial goal of £10, but her efforts ended up taking off well beyond her expectations.

“She was born with two holes in her heart and when she was one-year-old she had one of them closed at a hospital in Newcastle,” said Saints prop Kyle.

“She saw an advert on the TV for the British Heart Foundation and she knew she’d had the heart operation when she was younger so she asked her mum how she could raise money for them.

“She set up a Just Giving page expecting to make £10 but everybody was more than generous and she raised quite a decent amount. She wanted to do a poster for each of her classmates and when the school found out they wanted to have the whole school involved with everybody wearing red for the last day before half-term.”

Each child donated £1 on the day, raising £180 to add to the £600 she had totted up already.

Kyle himself joined the children to don red for the cause to help the British Heart Foundation and Lila’s posters were also displayed on the wall of her Year One classroom.
