A NUMBER of former students who have proved successful in their chosen careers returned to their school to share their experience with current pupils.

Rainhill High staged the careers convention and careers fair for Year 8 pupils which saw a series of guest speakers and local employers who were invited to offer help and guidance on job opportunities.

Throughout the day there were a number of question and answer sessions followed by a careers fair.

Among the guest speakers were actress and singer Emma Dears who has appeared in West End shows such as Les Miserables and Miss Saigon and freelance journalist Peter Lloyd who has written for Madonna and Russell Brand and is a regular contributor to Mail Online.

Other notable guests included Cheryl Rowbotham who is a senior solicitor who specialises in healthcare law providing advice to clients within the NHS as well as private healthcare providers and Neil Clough, a business entrepreneur who appeared on The Apprentice in 2013.

Also Dan Walsh who is head of marketing for Radio 1 and 1Xtra and is responsible for all the advertising campaigns and other forms of marketing.

The aims of the question and answer sessions was to highlight the breadth of opportunities available to students and inspire them to achieve success. It was also to offer encouragement and realise the results of hard work and the importance of life skills along with a good education opens up further opportunities.
