CENTRAL library was transformed into a hub of magical activity last as children celebrated the first ever World Harry Potter Book Day.
Fans of JK Rowling’s renowned stories queued up to get a taste of the wizarding world and take part in a host of fun Potter-related activities, with some getting into the spirit by dressing up in their own wizarding robes.
After walking through the platform nine-and-three-quarters entrance, children could get sorted by the library’s own Sorting Hat and they even had the chance to get up close and personal with some real live owls – just like those used in the famous films.
There was also the opportunity for the children to make their own magic wands and to take part in a frantic game of Quidditch.
“We have had a great turnout today and this is the first staging of a national event so we hope this could become an annual thing.” said Kathryn Boothroyd, community development manager at St Helens libraries.
“There have been lots of children coming in – as well as some adults who wanted to get sorted.”
