A 70-YEAR-OLD woman who was injured by a bus near the town bus station on Saturday remains in a serious condition at hospital.

The pensioner suffered head injuries when she was in collision with a bus at St Helens Bus Station in Bickerstaffe Street on Saturday afternoon.

Pedestrians, buses and passengers were diverted away from the scene following the incident.

Police confirmed the lady was taken to Aintree Hospital by ambulance, where her condition was described as "serious but stable".

She was conscious when being treated by paramedics following the collision, which occurred at around 12.20pm.

Merseyside Police are conducting an investigation into the incident.

A spokesperson from Merseytravel said: "We are supporting police in their investigation following the incident near St Helens Bus Station on Saturday.

"We diverted buses and passengers in the immediate aftermath and will also be conducting our own investigation - as is routine with incidents on or in the proximity of our bus stations."
