SEVERAL Saints players and assistant coach Sean Long have recorded their own messages of support to Martin Murray ahead of this weekend’s world title clash.

Cameras were set up at their training base at Cowley which saw Travis Burns, Tommy Makinson, Mark Flanagan, Adam Swift, captain Jon Wilkin and Paul Wellens give their own pep talks.

Australian Burns has struck up a friendship with Martin since going to watch a sparring session.

Senior members of the squad including Wilkin and Roby, who have known Martin for some time told him that after all the work and preparation he has put in it was his time to “seize the moment” and leave nothing to chance.

Wellens who led Saints to Grand Final victory last season when few gave them a chance against Wigan said the players know what it’s like to be written off.

He told Martin that if his is victorious and Saints beat Souths, St Helens will throw a huge party.

Council chiefs and dignitaries also added their messages of support for Martin.

The Mayor of St Helens Geoff Pearl said: “I would like to wish Martin and Saints the very best of luck as they chase the biggest prizes on offer in their sport. The people of St Helens should be very proud that they have such marvellous sportsmen representing the town at the highest level.”

Councillor Barrie Grunewald added: “I will be tuning in to both events and will be cheering on our boys. Even before a bell has been rung or a whistle blown, I am mighty proud of Martin and the Saints team and I know they have the tools to go on and become world champions.”
