THESE fantastic shots of a snow covered St Helens - including land surrounding the Dream sculpture - were captured by Jon Morgan with his specially adapted quad copter.

Jon, from Rainhill, uses the remote controlled airborne device to take pictures of local scenery from a bird's eye view.

He said: “The snow is going to go so I thought 'I’m going to get out there'. So I stuck the copter in my ruck sack and was at Dream in 20 minutes. It takes 60 seconds to get it cranked up and the GPS locked on and it takes a photo every five seconds.

“People seem to love aerial photos because they can say ‘look there’s my house’. It’s something that relates to everybody more than one from the ground.”

The 39-year-old who runs vwspecialoccassions.com providing transportation with a twist in the shape of a 1966 VW camper van said he enjoys the reaction he gets from people when he posts his pictures online.

“They generate so many conversations which aren’t necessarily about the photo. People say ‘I used to live there’ or ‘my aunty used to live there’ and it goes from there. I sit back and watch the conversation unfold.”

He said that there are rules and regulations in place for people using these copters. “You need permission from the land owner and you can’t take it up in a heavily congested area. And as a general rule of thumb you need to be around 50 metres away from any building.

“You just have to use your common sense. But I love what I do. Even though I took the picture of Dream each time I look at it it amazes me.”
