FIREFIGHTERS were called to a house fire after a grill pan burst into flames causing damage to the kitchen.

The fire broke out in the back of the house on Ash Grove in Whiston just after 5pm on Monday (January 26).

It also caused damage to a gas cooker.

The fire service said there were no smoke alarms in the property. Fire crews from Whiston and Kirkby attended but the fire was out by the time they arrived.

They carried out a home safety check and fitted two smoke alarms.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service offers general fire safety advice and urges people to have working smoke alarms on each level of their home.

A working smoke alarm can give the vital seconds to escape a property if a fire breaks out.

They also advise people to have gas appliances checked regularly by a qualified professional.
