THE latest round of strike action will hit hospitals this Thursday after a long running dispute over the government’s refusal to accept recommendations for a one per cent rise for NHS workers.
Hospital chiefs say they are working to maintain as normal a service for patients as possible.
A spokesperson from the St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals Trust said: “Further to last year’s industrial action there is to be a further period of national coordinated strike action on Thursday, January 29.
“This will take place from 9am to 9pm for all unions involved with the exception of the Society of Radiographers who will take action between 8am and 2pm.
“The trust is working closely with all staff, their union representatives, and other local NHS organisations to minimise any disruption to hospital services.
“All urgent and emergency care will continue to be provided. However we ask patients to consider the seriousness of their condition prior to attending the Accident and Emergency Department.
“Whilst some non-urgent appointments have been rescheduled those patients affected will be contacted and seen as soon as possible.”
Patients who have been advised by their GP to go to hospital for the following services are asked to note these changes: Routine blood tests – closed Thursday, January 29. The service will continue as normal on Friday, January 30.
Routine x-rays – attend after 2pm on Thursday, January 29.
A dedicated helpline will be set up from 9am to 5pm on 0151 430 1111. Alternatively visit sthk.nhs.uk.
