A MAJOR arts project is seeking volunteers to become its Heart.

The Arts England-funded Heart of Glass venture aims to engage people who have never been involved in the arts and celebrate what is unique about St Helens.

Now it needs volunteers to join an Arts + Community Network that will inform and drive aspects of the programme. The aim is to create a group of more than 50 people, known as The Heart whose task will include making decisions, supporting research and creating project briefs. Patrick Fox, director of Heart of Glass, said: “We believe that world-class artists in collaboration with St Helens communities will increase curiosity, participation and audiences for ambitious and extraordinary arts programming.

“Heart of Glass places the town’s unique cultural heritage at its core, using our passion for rugby and our industrial excellence in glass technology as our departure points for exploring how the arts can create a new cultural identity for St Helens.”

Anyone interested in joining The Heart should e-mail info@heartofglass.org.uk stating their interest, and telling the group a bit about themself, or telephone Laura Swithenbank, Heart on 01744 455087. You must register interest by Tuesday, November 25.
