A CONSTRUCTION firm has donated £2,400 towards the cost of a high quality prosthetic leg for courageous cancer battler Harrison Ledsham.

The 11-year-old's parents Paul and Karen Ledsham visited Haydock High school where they were presented with the money.

Building company Interserve, which is currently carrying out substantial work to the front of the secondary school, handed over the cash.

Harrison, a Blackbrook Royals junior rugby league player, started at Haydock in September despite still undergoing chemotherapy .

The former Legh Vale pupil was diagnosed with bone cancer in the spring and needed his left leg amputating in the summer in a bid to beat the disease.

His new school has already raised almost £3,000 for the youngster through a number of fundraising activities which saw acting head Dee Griffiths take part in an ice bucket challenge. Money raised will go towards buying a high quality prosthetic leg to give him more independence.

Gill White, the school's examinations officer, said: “The assembly was based around the theme of building and highlighted to students the importance of creating strong foundations not just in construction but in life.

“At the end of the assembly Interserve handed over a cheque to Harrison’s parents in front of the whole school and to tremendous applause from everyone for the incredible amount of £2,400.

“After the assembly Interserve took a few year 11 students with an interest in pursuing a career in building onto the building site to look at the work in progress.”
