ARMY reserves are hosting a recruitment event to showcase the range of opportunities in the forces.

Based on Prescot Road, St Helens, the 103 Regiment Royal Artillery Army Reserve Unit will open its doors to potential new recruits between Wednesday, October 22 and Tuesday, October 28.

The army’s latest campaign ‘More Than Meets The Eye’ is designed to attract recruits to full time and part time roles in the Reserves, which were formerly known as the territorial army.

The 103 regiment trains and deploys with some of the army’s most advanced artillery systems. Its soldiers regularly exercise overseas as well as playing a full part in operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, Cyprus and the Balkans in recent years.

Visitors will be able to speak to soldiers from the unit as well as seeing the latest kit and equipment used by the British Army.

The event will take place between 10am and 6pm at the Army reserve Centre on Prescot Road.

Brigadier J W Ogden, director of operations for Army Recruiting Group, said: “Joining the Army Reserve is an exciting opportunity for anyone looking to do something extra with their spare time and benefit from a rewarding experience outside normal working hours.

“Reservists can find themselves helping people affected by emergencies in the UK, serving in combat operations overseas or taking part in adventurous training such as skiing in Canada or trekking in Morocco.

“This event aims to showcase the broad range of jobs, world class training and development prospects available to anyone who is interested in joining.”

A reservist's starting pay begins at £36.38 a day and can rise to £63.32 if they become an officer. Reservists will also receive a £300 bonus when they enlist and a further £2,000 on completing their training.
