THE summer may now be over but one ice cream man will be hoping for a roaring trade to raise money for a cause close to his family’s heart.

John Watkinson, from Haydock, will be dressed all in pink as he looks to raise money for the Breast Cancer Campaign on ‘Wear It Pink’ day on Friday, October 24.

John’s wife, Nan, lost her grandmother 'Jel' to the disease during childhood in Thailand and it is a cause close to her heart.

“My wife was 12 when her grandmother died and was like a mother figure to her,” says John.

“It’s a cause that is close to her and she works in the van as well. She will be on the retail park on Peasley Cross Road on the day.

“And from 3.30pm I will start my round from Grange Valley School and go through all different parts of Haydock until 7pm.

"I'll be all in pink and will be giving out pink ice creams.

“It’s the end of the ice cream season but Haydock is a good community and it would be good for people to recognise it and help us. It’s a good round and it would be good if everyone came out on the day.”
