POLICE have welcomed the decision by magistrates to impose a three month closure order on an alleged ‘crack den’.

Following a raid at 7 Glover Street, Greenbank last month police applied for the order under the Anti Social Behaviour Act 2003.

It follows complaints from neighbours over allegations class A drugs were being used from there.

The order was granted by the court meaning the flat will be closed until early December and will restrict access to the registered occupants.

Neighbourhood Sergeant Mark Stanistreet said: “We can confirm that a closure order has been put in place at a property on Glover Street. The order which has been arranged by magistrates was applied for by police following numerous incidents reported at the property and after information provided by the local community.

“Such orders prohibit access to the premises in an effort to reduce the level of crime reported in the area and we have worked closely with partner agencies in agreeing this measure.

“The order came into force on Tuesday, September 2 and will run for three months at which time officers will review the order.

“I would like to reassure the local community that we will continue to be robust in tackling criminal activity and I would encourage people to call us with information via the 101 number or through Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
