NEIGHBOURS have rallied round after a fire tore through a family home destroying furniture, clothes and baby’s toys.

The blaze at Elizabeth Road in Haydock caused widespread damage leaving them with nothing. No one was injured in the fire.

Cheryl Kay lived in the terrace with her daughter Jessica, 19, son Steven 17, Tina Smith, 31, and grandson Jaxon.

A friend of the family Vikki Richards, 32, said: “They are very good friends of mine and a Facebook group was started to help and quickly spread across St Helens.

“Since then people have been donating everything from beds to wardrobes. Someone even donated a three-piece-suite.

“They are struggling and lost everything. They have been placed in temporary housing in Fingerpost but they have no carpets.

“They even lost all the babies clothes and a cot.”

Sue Ball, 44, the manageress at The Club in Haydock says people have been using it as a base to drop off items for the family.

She said: “There are storage boxes full of stuff,” she said.

“It seems they have more or less everything except carpets.”

Cheryl, 37, said the response has been overwhelming. “Everyone has been fantastic. We can’t begin to thank everyone who has helped. It’s been amazing. We had no idea people could be so kind. Tango in Haydock has also been great and a lot of help.

“People have even been making little boxes with shower gel and make-up. It’s nice to get the chance to publicly thank everyone for what they have done

“We also want to thank Vikki and Sue for their support.”

Although they are temporary accommodation in Fingerpost Cheryl says they are hoping to move back into their home soon. She said: “We have been told we could move back into the house in 12 weeks so we’re hoping to be back in by Christmas.”
