TWO men have been arrested following a police pursuit involving the force’s helicopter and dog’s patrol.

Officers were called to Sutton on Tuesday morning following reports that a man wanted by police had been seen in the area.

At around 10am police went to Herbert Street after two men on motor bikes were seen acting suspiciously.

As officers arrived at the scene the two men sped off one colliding with a parked car.

A search of the area was carried out involving the police helicopter and officers with dogs and the men’s details circulated to patrols across the town.

At around 11.30am patrols came across a blue BMW in City Road which was believed to have been linked to the earlier incident.

A 35-year-old man who was in the car was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and obstructing police.

Two hours later at around 1.40pm police stopped a bus on City Road and arrested a 22-year-old man on suspicion of burglary.

Following further enquiries a motorbike was seized which is believed to have been stolen in Winwick earlier this month.

Both men are in police custody. Another man remains wanted by police.

Chief Inspector Helen Corcoran from St Helens command team said: "Acting on information received, we launched a concerted effort to arrest a St Helens man wanted for a number of offences.

"Extensive resources were deployed and officers arrested two men who are in custody awaiting questioning. Local officers worked extremely hard during this incident to minimise the risk to the general public and I am pleased to say that no-one was injured.

"We are grateful to the public for all the information that they share with us about criminals and criminal activity and decent, law-abiding members of our communities have my assurances that we will act on all information received.”
