FORMER St Helens Council leader Marie Rimmer has been arrested and charged with assaulting a woman at a Glasgow Polling station.
The 67-year-old councillor for West Park, who will stand as the Labour candidate for St Helens South and Whiston at the next general election, was arrested earlier today as she campaigned against Scottish independence in Glasgow.
A police statement read:"Police Scotland can confirm a 67-year-old woman has been arrested and charged in connection with an alleged assault on a female following an incident at Shettleston Community Centre in Amulree Street, Glasgow around 1300 hrs today.
“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
Council Leader Barrie Grunewald is among a group of Labour councillors from St Helens who have travelled over the border to campaign for the no vote.
