YOUNG people in Newton-le-Willows have helped to transform Mesnes Park Bridge as part of a community project.

Over the past four months The Limitless Urban Arts C.I.C has run the project in partnership with the Newton community and organisers to allow children in the area the chance to express what their community means to them.

A series of five workshops have been held with around 60 young people from Newton getting involved in the initiative.

As well as painting the bridge, the workshops aimed to emphasise the difference between graffiti and vandalism and to warn the children of the dangers of vandalising.

And the final result was unveiled on Wednesday, August 27 with the paintwork being revealed with Newton Councillor Seve Gomez-Aspron among those in attendance.

“We have then given the community a platform to express their feelings by coming together and painting Mesnes Park Bridge,” said Jack Knowles, Managing Director and leading artist at Limitless Urban Arts.

“I’m trying to get rid of the stigma around graffiti and tell all the children the dangers of going out and vandalising. I always tell people the dangers and consequences for that.”
