A CAMBRIDGE graduate has praised his sixth form college for its role in helping him achieve a top-class degree.

Twenty-one-year-old Paul Swift graduated this summer from Trinity College with a first-class degree in Natural Sciences, finishing with the 28th best result out of 102 in his year.

Brainbox Paul, who achieved six A star grades in his studies at Carmel, says the college gave him a good grounding ahead of making the big step to moving away for his degree studies.

“Carmel were definitely a help to me. They encouraged me to apply and helped with my personal statement,” says Paul, from Eccleston.

“It was hard moving away from home and settling in at Cambridge at first and I knew the place has a big reputation.

“There were more southerners there than northerners which was a bit weird at first but I expected that!”

Paul’s degree was in Natural Sciences, although his studies were focused on Chemistry.

He is not considering any further studies for the moment and is hoping to get a job in the pharmaceutical industry.

”I’ve been applying for chemistry and pharmaceutical jobs and I’ve had one interview so far.”
