IT HAS been considered one of the town’s worst eyesores for over a decade but progress is finally being made at West Point.

These pictures, taken last night, show a steel structure being erected on the location.

The former St Thomas’ Square site has been the subject of one of the most drawn-out development sagas, with plans for a leisure and retail complex having been in the pipeline for over a decade.

After previous attempts floundered, hope was resurrected when Orbit Developments bought a section of the land from St Helens Council in 2013.

So far supermarket chain Aldi have been confirmed as part of the project with other leisure operators believed to be getting involved in the venture. Phase One of the construction is due for completion in January of next year.
