PLANS have been submitted to the council to build 338 homes on the site of a former industrial estate.

Persimmon Homes are looking to transform the Deacon Trading Estate in Newton-le-Willows which covers the size of approximately 11 rugby pitches.

Records show that the site has been used by numerous industries since 1893 including a wagon works.

Outline permission has already been granted to demolish all of the existing buildings within the estate.

Most of the commercial and industrial units have been cleared from the site.

The development will consist of two, three and four bedroom houses with ten per cent of the properties affordable homes.

Access will be via two points along Earle Street. The company claim that landscaping on the site will “provide a new attractive green living environment”.

A public consultation into the development ends on Thursday, September 18.
