WHEN Kevin Nicholas lines up alongside his daughter Caitlin at the Great North Run this weekend his son James will be at the forefront of their minds.

Since James died just before his 22 birthday in 2012 from an undetected heart defect his family and friends have raised thousands for the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).

The last time Kevin took part in the run Carmel student Caitlin was cheering him on from the sidelines but this time the 18-year-old will be lining up alongside her dad.

Caitlin did her part to raise the profile of the charity when she took part in a sponsored cycle ride along the Leeds Liverpool Canal with fellow students and lecturers from Carmel.

Kevin, 48, from Dentons Green who ran the Great North Run last year explained: “We have been doing the park run in Victoria Park and have been getting better. I’ve been up to 11 miles and Caitlin has been doing between eight and nine.

“I just want to try and better my time from last year which was two hours 37 minutes.”
