THE long-term unemployed are being given the chance to land a job with supermarket chain Aldi thanks to a joint venture between Helena Partnerships and St Helens Chamber.

Following a recruitment drive at Helena’s town centre head office, 23 people have been selected for training that includes how to approach job applications, interview techniques and basic customer care.

Aldi will guarantee a job interview and the chance to land a position to everyone who completes the course.

Roy Williams, neighbourhood employment co-ordinator at Helena, said: “At present the job market is extremely competitive and we want to give people living in our neighbourhoods an advantage when looking for work.”

Rita Gillespie employment advisor at Starting Point, St Helens Chamber added: “Working so closely with Helena means that we can prepare candidates for jobs by meeting them at open days and ensuring that they have individual support and training for the job they are applying for.”

It was echoed by Cath Brooks outreach team supervisor at Helena who said: “Hopefully the help we offer will lead to promising new jobs and brighter futures.”
