A MAN was left bloodied after allegedly being assaulted with a bat in St Helens town centre.

The victim, believed to be in his 20s and from South Liverpool, was found injured shortly before 5pm on Friday afternoon when police were called to Corporation Street.

Two men were later arrested in connection with incident, say police.

A man with blood coming from his head was seen in the back of a police car on nearby Birchley Street, at about 5.30pm. A house on Birchley Street was also cordoned off.

Police confirmed they tended to the victim prior to an ambulance arriving.
