VIKINGS Wheelchair Basketball Club is celebrating the success of six of its junior players at recent Lord’s Taverners National Junior Championships.

The club, which is based at the Lansbury Bridge School in Moss Bank, had five of its players representing the North West in the under 15s team which took gold after winning all their matches.

Callum Doherty, 13 Callum Fairweather,13 Jack Tate, 12, Lewis Craddock, 10 and Louis Telford, 12 all competed for the Under 15's team which beat Northern Ireland in a great final 33 - 19.

And, to cap oft the club's success, 16-year-old former Lansbury Bridge pupil Adam McGrath also won gold for the North West under 19s. The side also enjoyed a clean sweep of victories to take gold after they produced a sensational 14-11 comeback against Yorkshire to claim the title.

Sue Peel, a coach from Vikings who was there to support the players said: "I am very proud of all the players. They work hard each week in training and they are very dedicated youngsters.

“They are really excited after their win and can’t stop talking about it.”

The club also plans to compete in the under 15s National League after teaming up with Wigan warthogs to form the Viking Hoglets.

“Wheelchair basketball is good because it puts kids in a similar position together who would normally be quite reserved.

“The players, parents and coaches are now very excited ahead of the GBWBA's u15's National League this season.
