TOM Loughlin will be one of the stars of a spectacular production of Jesus Christ Superstar coming to the Theatre Royal next month.

The 17-year-old tuneful tenor who has performed at numerous events across St Helens will play the role of Simon. Tom, who is the son of former Saints star Paul is studying at the renowned Chetham's School of Music in Manchester.

National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA) award winner Andy Lee is Judas and Louis Fenney plays Pilate.

The production is the latest work by The Phoenix Youth Theatre group based in St Helens.

Showcasing some of the North West’s most talented young performers aged between 16 and 18, it will also features a live nine-piece orchestra.

it will feature hit songs such as Heaven on Their Minds, Gethsemane and I Don’t Know How To Love Him.

It follows last year’s successful production of Phantom of the Opera which scooped five NODA awards, including best director and best musical director.

The show runs from Wednesday, September 10 to Friday, September 12, starting at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £10 and are available from the Theatre Royal on 01744 756000.
