STAR readers are being urged to support the legacy of the great Steve Prescott by coming forwards with inspiring nominations for the Solarking Pride of St Helens Awards 2014.

Powerful and inspiring entries have begun rolling in for the event that will be hosted at Saints’ Langtree Park on Friday, November 7.

Both the St Helens Star and Steve Prescott Foundation want as many quality entries as possible.

The organisations set up the awards in 2012 after sharing Steve’s passion to shout loudly about many of the unheralded achievements of the town’s public.

With Steve’s autobiography ‘One in a Million’ due to be launched this week, it is hoped Star readers will draw strength from his remarkable story to nominate contenders who share the courage, resilience, ambition and talent that Steve epitomised until his death aged 39 last November.

In the book, discussing why Pride of St Helens was set up, Steve wrote: “The idea was to do something to celebrate my town’s achievements in the world of sport, entertainment and industry.

“Despite any problems the town has, we are still prolific at producing real stars in a wide range of fields.

“As a town we are not very good at blowing our own trumpet and yet there are a lot of positive things happening in St Helens.

“That is the main objective of the Pride of St Helens – we need to let everyone know what is good about this town.”

He added: “I would like to think it will grow, with more people doing good, positive things.”
