A MAN in his 80s was left with a broken arm after he and his wife were robbed after attending a dance at a village hall.

The couple were walking along Stour Avenue in Rainhill at around 10.30pm on Sunday (August 17) when a man approached them from behind and made a grab for their bags.

He ran off with a small brown leather bag.

Both were knocked to the ground and the man was injured. His wife who is in her 70s was not hurt.

The offender is described as being in his late teens or early 20s, around 5ft 10in and with a slight build.

The couple saw him run towards Weaver Avenue and left towards Prescot.

Detective Constable Steve O’Neill said: “This was an extremely upsetting incident and has left the couple very shaken.

“We are keen to find this individual as he has no qualms about preying on vulnerable members of our society. In this instance he’s left an elderly gentleman with a broken arm.”
