PLANS to remove graffiti from the Sankey Viaduct Bridge in Newton-le-Willows have been drawn up by Network Rail.

The company has submitted a planning application to St Helens Council requesting the green light for the works at the landmark known locally as the Nine Arches bridge.

Great news! But, I'll give it about a month and it'll be graffitied over again. Take a look at the new footbridge they built just outside Rainhill down Ritherup Lane which was painted dark green - it's now covered in graffiti. And you know what? The old bridge wasn't covered in graffiti because it was a mesh style - the new one is, in the interests of health and safety no doubt, fully enclosed with panels just waiting to be scrawled upon! One nil to the graffiti-ists!
