A DOG walker has been ordered to pay more than £1,200 after failing to clean up after his pet fouled in a public place.
Rodney Joseph Shaw, aged 67, of Wharf Road, Newton-le-Willows, denied three charges when he appeared before St Helens Magistrates’ Court on Friday, August 1.
However, magistrates found the pensioner guilty of not cleaning up after his dog when it was out roaming on land near Wharf Road in December 2013, allowing his dog on a highway without an identification tag on its collar, and providing false or misleading information to an authorised officer.
Shaw was fined £600 for the fouling offence and ordered to pay £600 costs and a victim surcharge of £60.
St Helens Council’s cabinet member for environment and neighbourhoods, Councillor Seve Gomez-Aspron, said: “Our dog wardens will continue to enforce the law with regard to dog fouling.
“The vast majority of dog owners are responsible, caring people but this case shows what can happen to those who aren’t.”
