STAR readers have been posting dramatic images on our Facebook page of the electrical storm that raged over St Helens in the early hours.

Lightning bolts could be seen in the dark skies at about 4am.

Tommy Gavin posted this picture (below) and wrote: "Took this from my bedoom window just before 4am, (just off College St). You can see where the strike is originating from..."

I've never seen a storm like this before. I started seeing lightning around 3 am in the distance, it was overhead by about 20 past 3 and lasted at least an hour. Quite amazing literally a none stop rumble of thunder, now I just wish i had a go pro or something to have recorded it.
