MARY Eccles toasted her 103rd birthday with a glass of Bucks Fizz, surrounded by her family at her home at Reeve Court retirement village.

The oldest resident at the village in Rainhill, Mary was joined by daughter Anne Berry and her husband Albert, along with her two granddaughters and three grandsons at the nearby Black Horse pub in Prescot.

Born in Peasley Cross, Mary was part of a large family that lived on Ada Street, which has since been demolished.

During the war, she worked at United Glass, while husband Alfred served in the army.

After the war, he went to work at Pilkingtons but died at the age of 47.

Mary moved into Reeve Court six years ago after a lengthy spell living on her own. Although she now needs a wheelchair, she still lives an active life.
